Indian Flathead

Platycephalus indicus

Platycephalidae family · Demersal

Least Concern

The Indian Flathead, known as "Battat" locally, lies camouflaged on sandy and muddy bottoms waiting to ambush prey. Instantly recognisable by its extremely flat, broad head. A reliable catch for UAE bottom anglers, particularly at night. Note: the MOCCAE list uses the common name "Indian Mackerel" for this species — the scientific name Platycephalus indicus confirms it is the Flathead.
